How To Become A Cash In Transit Officer In Queensland?
Cash in transit officers are essentially security personnel entrusted with the task of safely moving valuables like cash and jewellery from one place to another. In order to work as one anywhere within Queensland, an individual must have a current licence which would ensure that he or she is trained and has the necessary qualifications. In case the person wants to become an armed CIT officer, they would also need to acquire a weapons licence from Queensland Police Service.

The eligibility criteria for a CIT officer in Australia is quite strict, which implies that no person who has been convicted because of an offence committed within a decade can apply for the position. Moreover, any disqualifying offence that a person was found guilty of in the past 5 years must also be reported, even if conviction wasn’t recorded. And that is not all, the applicant will further need to submit an application for criminal history investigation. In case he or she possesses a New Zealand passport or was previously a citizen of that country, they must produce their criminal history issued in New Zealand.

Once the criminal history check is over, the candidate will have to acquire proper training from a registered organisation. There are many firms that provide training to aspiring cash in transit officers, under the new 2011 Property Services Training Package (CPP07). This package includes the following course modules:

  • Patrol premises
  • Maintain environment security
  • Manage conflict via negotiation
  • Implement CIT security procedures
  • Test & inspect CIT security equipment
  • Provide or Apply first aid

In addition to these, there are 8 extra course modules featuring two courses each (except one), and a candidate has to pass at least one course from every module.

After completing the training, a individual can start working with a security firm as an expert of Cash In Transit in Brisbane. However, if they want, they can also apply for an additional restricted licence in order to work while they are under training. However, a restricted licence expires after 6 months, and the trainee must complete all training requirements & also apply for unrestricted licence before that.

Besides CIT officers, there are also supervising cash in transit officers who have a separate set of qualifications formulated specially for them. They usually need to stay with a restricted licence holder in the same place, and assist him or her immediately. In addition to that, they must also provide detailed written instructions to a licensee and note all tasks performed by them.
